We had quite a scare last week with the rumors of a 2009 push back on the X1. Thankfully, Sony has laid those to rest with an official release date of September 30th. This release date, which is just a few weeks away, is initially for the UK, Germany, and Sweden. A release date for the following countries is expected to be announced later in Q4:
* Indonesia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam
* Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Portugal
* Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic
* UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait
* South Africa
* Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia
For those in North America, China, Australia and Russia; no further date is noted. According to Sony dates will be announced in local markets over the coming months. Looks like unlocked might be the way to go for those wanting the X1 outside of the three officially launched countries.
This is great news for those eagerly anticipating the launch, and we expect numerous carriers to start picking the mobile up over the coming weeks. Still no official word on pricing.
UPDATE: Vodafone and O2 have officially picked this up in Germany and UK.
